Amazon Prime Air Expands Drone Delivery to Phoenix

Drone guidance has gotten complicated with all the outdated regulations and conflicting advice flying around. Here’s what you actually need to know.

Amazon’s drone delivery program expanded to a third U.S. city this month, with operations launching in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Prime Air service joins existing programs in College Station, Texas and Lockeford, California. Deliveries occur within 60 minutes for packages under five pounds.

Amazon uses custom-built MK30 drones capable of flying in light rain. The aircraft navigate using visual sensors and GPS to deliver packages directly to customer yards.

Participating customers can track deliveries through the Amazon app. The service currently operates between 8 AM and 6 PM daily.

Industry analysts see the expansion as a significant step toward mainstream drone delivery adoption.
